Our Promise: School Culture

Students are more successful when they feel welcome and happy at school. Research shows that academic achievement increases when social and emotional needs are met.

It's critical students see themselves as full members of their school community. That's why one of our big strategic goals is schools are welcoming and safe places where students are respected and supported to succeed.

How will we reach our school culture goal? We are tracking several metrics:

  • Number of in-school and out-of-school suspensions
  • Number of expulsions
  • Average daily attendance rate and chronic absence rate
  • Number of students participating in extracurricular activities

Metrics are important, but school culture encompasses more than data you can measure. As one school leader explains, it's about a feeling
